Type approval is a procedure followed by the relevant authorization source to certify that a certain type of vehicle, system, component, and technical part (or a collection thereof) meets the technical requirements as well as executive regulations set forth in the relevant standard(s).

COP is a procedure through which the conformity of an automotive vehicle, a system, and a collection of individual technical parts is ascertained based on the requirements set forth in the relevant standard(s).
This procedure involves audit of quality management system (preliminary evaluation/initial assessment), verification of the confirmed subjects, and application of product-related controls (COP arrangements).
At present, all the automobiles, motorcycles, and road construction/agricultural machinery – whether imported by or manufactured in Iran – must be evaluated by a competent third party inspector with regard to meeting the relevant requirements.
As the first and the largest company of its kind, and ranking among the most active inspection companies in the country, Iran Engineering Inspection Company (IEIC) holds an accreditation certificate issued by the National Accreditation Center of Iran (NACI).
In line with the decisions taken by the Iranian National Standards Organization (INSO) and the enforcement of compulsory automotive standards in Iran in 2003, our company started its activity as the executive arm of the INSO upon obtaining the required technical inspection certifications.
Iran Engineering Inspection Company is the first authorized inspection company in Iran in the field of type approval evaluation. Having performed this evaluation procedure on more than 150 automobile models (both imported and Iranian made), the company has gained valuable experience in this regard.
In addition, since the enforcement of the 2010 Iranian Evaluation Procedure for COP Arrangements, our company has performed numerous evaluations in the automotive industry, thus playing a significant role in the identification of technically improvable parts in both automobiles and motorcycles.
In line with the requirements regarding the incomplete vehicle type approval (N-rigid?), Iran Engineering Inspection Company provides inspection and COP services for incomplete vehicles (upon installation of the relevant user equipment) based on the Iranian National Standard No. 11889, subsequently submitting the relevant reports to the Iranian Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Trade.
In line with the requirements set forth in Iran regarding quality supervision of motorcycles (both Iranian made and imported), Iran Engineering Inspection Company has, since 2013, used ( upon obtaining the required authorizations) its vast experience in the field of vehicle type approval to provide type approval services for motorcycles as well as for automobiles. The company has so far provided relevant inspection services for more than 100 motorcycle models.
In line with the compulsory standardization in Iran of road construction and agricultural machinery, Iran Engineering Inspection Company has – as of 2013 – relied on its several years of experience in this field has, upon obtaining the necessary authorizations from the INSO, expanded its activities to cover type approval services for road construction and agricultural machinery. The company is prepared to provide these services to both importers and manufacturers of such machinery.
In line with the requirements enforced in Iran regarding type approval of imported vehicles and to ensure the imported vehicles meet the standard requirements, it is necessary to obtain the relevant COP certification for all imported automobiles, motorcycles, and tractors before these vehicles can be released from the Iranian Customs Office.
Through its trained inspectors stationed at all points of (vehicle) entry to Iran as well as its representatives in the farthest corners of the world, Iran Engineering Inspection Company performs, in the shortest possible time, the required inspections (based on the relevant definitions) and issues the necessary inspection certificates in this regard.
As a company approved by the Iranian Fuel Consumption Optimization Company, Iran Engineering Inspection Company has – since 2008 – acted as the executive arm of this company in the field of supervising fuel consumption and emissions tests for light and heavy vehicles as well as motorcycles. Our company also provides the necessary information for examining the status quo of the Iranian transportation fleet as well as the necessary reports to set forth the required criteria for energy consumption standards and labels.
